7th April 2006 - ODPM launches industry promotion

The Office of The Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) has announced the launch of the industry marketing campaign for HIPs. The combination of advertisements in trade magazines and journals and a very extensive new website is helping drive awareness of the initiative.

The campaign is focussed on increasing awareness within the industry about the timetable for their introduction, and will help to address some of the concerns that commentators had outlined about lack of information about the programme. Recent surveys of the estate agency, legal and mortgage industry found companies had not investigated HIPs, and many had no current plans. One survey in particular revealed that a surprising figure of about 17% of estate agents were not aware of HIPs and their implications.

A survey by the National Association of Estate Agents, revealed that 50% of consumers were aware of HIPs. Whilst this is an encouraging figure, it is set to increase with a significant government-run consumer marketing campaign later in the year.

As Yvette Cooper the Housing Minister explains, “Home Information Packs have been long called for by consumer groups to give people reliable information at the beginning of the process. Now the dry run will make sure that all aspects of the Packs are properly tested before being fully introduced next year."

Peter Ambrose, Director, The Partnership said; “We are delighted to see this initiative by the ODPM. We are confident that the promotional campaign will help both industry specialists and consumers to understand the importance of Home Information Packs and the benefits they bring.”
